Downtown Dallas gets Revitalized; new Performing Arts Centre'
Over in the ‘Big D’, Dallas, 32 kilometres of the the downtown area is going to be revitalized, with an amphitheatre, two bridges designed by world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava; hiking, biking and horse trails; a rafting centre; and an urban forest project. Also part of the complex is the new US $1.2 billion Dallas Cowboys stadium. Coming in 2012, a new convention centre and hotel will be built, featuring an additional, 80,000 square feet of meeting space than in years prior. In 2013, a light rail system will connect 23 stations in Dallas to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
Big news this past year was the opening of the AT&T Performing Arts Center in October 2009 at a cost of US $354 million. The Centre offers clients an arts district of 60-plus acres in size. A 2,300-seat opera house, a theatre, a 3,000-seat outdoor venue and six acres of public green space make a playground for music, dance, performance art and theatre.
