Holiday Lighting Ceremony set for Friday, November 25
in Fredericksburg—the Texas Hill Country
FREDERICKSBURG, TX --- Experience the nostalgic beauty of yesteryear this holiday season in Fredericksburg –the Texas Hill Country. Fredericksburg captivates during the holidays with its Old World charm, myriad of festive decorations and full events calendar – kicking-off the season with its Holiday Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Marktplatz on West Main.
Music featuring holiday favorites in English and German provide the backdrop to the ceremony in which both the 30-foot Christmas tree and 26-foot pivoting Christmas pyramid will be illuminated.
In a community where the holiday traditions of its German forefathers are evident with nutcrackers, Glühwein (warm spiced German wine), St. Nikolaus, and more, that German holiday spirit is most apparent with Fredericksburg’s 26-foot tall wooden Christmas pyramid. This 5-tiered beauty was hand-crafted in Germany specifically for Fredericksburg. Considered staples in German holiday decorating, Christmas pyramids are wooden carousel-like structures that have several levels depicting Christmas motifs, such as angels, nutcrackers and manger scenes and are generally tabletop size. Fredericksburg’s 26-foot tall Christmas pyramid is colorful and almost whimsical in appearance, and a must-see – offering a postcard setting for family photos. It’s so serene!
Another of Germany’s holiday contributions is the Christmas tree. Fredericksburg’s tree, part of the lighting ceremony, is 30 feet tall and decorated by hand-crafted ornaments donated by

They’re just part of the charm one finds in this historic Hill Country hamlet peppered with art galleries, museums, quaint design shops and boutiques, German bakeries and wineries.
“Fredericksburg is just a wonderful place to experience a home town Christmas, and we wanted to emphasize our German heritage with our Christmas pyramid and other holiday decorations,” noted Ernie Loeffler, director of the Fredericksburg Convention & Visitor Bureau. “We hope to provide our residents and many visitors to Fredericksburg with a wonderful Old World holiday experience,” Loeffler concluded.
