AUSTIN’S COSMIC COWBOY TOUR
Austin’s perpetual driving/floating music festival
Austin, Texas (March 25, 2010) – Locals and visitors alike discover the unique charm of the "real" Austin in this off-the-beaten-path jaunt to some of the city's most historic sites, beautiful lakes and endeared dives, digs, and juke joints. Austin's character and appeal is defined by three key elements: delicious food and drink, an unparalleled local music scene, and beautiful Austin scenery. This evening tour captures the essence that sets the Capital apart.
Guests climb aboard Austin’s Amphibious DUCK on an evening outing called Austin’s Cosmic Cowboy Tour. With a tip of the hat to Austin’s musical heritage, the Cosmic Cowboy guides share stories from the early days the Armadillo World Headquarters where hippies and rednecks converged to foster the music scene that we know and love today.
Guests not only are treated to the best sites Austin has to offer but are serenaded by some of Austin’s homegrown crooners along the way like Shelley King, Texas State Musician of the Year 2008. Nothing imported! The Cosmic Cowboys, as the guests are affectionately called, are treated to belly full of authentic Texas cuisine from local eatery, Ranch 616, and enjoy a savory dessert from Amy’s Ice Cream! As the tour rolls onward, there is a nice confluence of views, tunes and a perfectly timed splash into Lake Austin to enjoy the rich Texas Sunset.
With the guest’s bellies full, the Cosmic DUCK emerges from the waters to steer towards our local haunts…establishments that are small, family owned and operated Austin landmarks. Most of them have remained virtually unchanged for decades. They may be referred to as "saloons" or "holes-in-the-wall", but what they lack in swank and sophistication they far surpass in character and authenticity. Folks who started out the evening as guests depart as official Cosmic Cowboy ambassadors.
Working in concert with Austin’s Convention & Visitors Bureau, Greg Strake says the tour has drawn rave reviews from guests seeking a good cross section experience of Austin. The Cosmic Cowboy Tour remains determined to work only with authentic Austin/Hill Country businesses such as Ranch 616, Amy’s Ice Cream, Sweet Leaf Tea, Austin Duck Adventures and other local favorites.
The idea for Austin’s Cosmic Cowboy Tour was chiseled out of Strake’s desire to share the REAL Austin experience with locals and visitors alike. “Most folks outside of Austin think of 6th Street when they think of Austin’s nightlife. I feel confident when I say that there is infinitely more to the Austin experience...” The goal in partnering only with local businesses, according to Strake “is to showcase all that the city has to offer. Everyone walks away a bit richer from the experience.
